With a name like Girls there isn't a lot one can infer without doing a bit of research. Let me give you some background. Girls is two guys who live in San Francisco. Their particular brand of lo-fi, bedroom pop sounds as if it time-traveled from the early 60s, making a pit stop in the mid 90s before resting ever so comfortably in the present with the company of Japandroids, Suckers, and Wavves. Without an actual release of their song "Hellhole Ratrace", Girls were blessed with number 100 on Pitchfork's list of top songs in 2008; a slot that's truly nothing to sneeze at.
On a personal note, Girls' first single "Lust for Life" (no, not that "Lust for Life") features a photo of my ex-girlfriend on the cover. I see the two bandmates walking around town constantly. I'm pretty sure I've had a dream about them. I hear their live show rules, and pretty much everyone I know that supports local music loves them. Aside from making wonderful music, Girls are rockin' proof that San Francisco is one of the smallest cities in the world.
